Fools and chainsaws

I arrived home today to the sound of chainsaws and saw the imminent death of a perfectly fine mature oak tree… on a neighbour’s property.
Not native so not protected, not even from commonsense.
It made me feel sick,
A touch of sadness,
The willy-nilly chopping of trees.
It may have been a blocked drain,
or cabling,
it may have been the view,
it may have been just because.
Who knows why people do the things they do?

“God has cared for these trees, saved them from drought, disease, avalanches, and a thousand tempests and floods.  But he cannot save them from fools. “
– John Muir

    • We heard the sound of chainsaws again today, and yet another neighbour is chopping down their trees. 😦
      Where are the Lorax believers?
