Green vegetables win the colour game this morning. Watermelon doesn’t have the ho hum of the beets. Refreshing. So nice to have the unknown factor each time a juice is made. I don’t measure and every day the ingredients are different. The flavour is always a surprise. A good one.

There really is watermelon in this juice! I thought I had enough carrots and cucumber to fill out the juice but no, so I improvised at the last moment to get two full glasses of juice.

Carrots, beetroot, cucumber, ginger and watermelon. Five ingredients. Now when you have too much watermelon you get a really sweet juice. This was really sweet. Lovely colour.

Pineapple sage has made it’s way into my juice. I have some in the garden. It was pulled out by mistake last year. I didn’t have the heart to say to him afterwards that it wasn’t a weed. Pineapple sage grew again by itself this year and I am so pleased as it is a nice looking plant, with a cottage garden vibe rather than pruned perfection.
Finally a different colour! Out of beetroot.
Ginger missed the photo shoot and jumped in right at the end.

The sky is dark and grey. There is a stillness in the air and the clouds are just hanging about. Somehow I think it will stay a grey day with no rain. I am not complaining. We have been spoilt with fine weather for practically the entire summer. For the city folk it is wonderful, for the farmers, not so great. A spot of rain would not go amiss.
INT. KITCHEN – LATE AFTERNOON
Mario is at the kitchen counter preparing vegetables and fruit for the juicer. Luigi stands watching holding a plumber’s wrench.
MARIO
I am not mourning the loss of the watermelon!
LUIGI
You could always buy another.
MARIO
It would never be the same….How could you say such a thing?
LUIGI
I’m hungry. I’m not nice when I’m hungry. You should know that by now. Make me a sandwich, why don’t ya!
MARIO
You are not getting a sandwich. I’m making juice.
LUIGI
What sort of sandwich is that?
MARIO
Has your hearing gone with your hunger?
LUIGI
I’m fainting.
Luigi drops his plumber’s wrench and falls to the floor dramatically. Mario ignores Luigi and continues juicing.

The sound of the autumn cicadas fill the air and I know the summer is soon to be over. I am enjoying the sound of the cicadas. Their numbers are manageable. When there are too many it just becomes just a loud constant noise and I cannot hear myself think. Today the cicadas are welcome.
